What is Somatic Yoga?

Also known as embodied yoga, this relatively new style blends the insights of modern Western neuroscience with the ancient wisdom of Eastern traditions. Its primary focus is on regulating the nervous system, allowing individuals to navigate the challenges of daily life with greater balance and ease. The classes are intentionally slow-paced but not still. It could be described as moving yin yoga. The participants are guided through simple poses while being encouraged to draw their attention to their bodies and let their sensations lead the way. In this approach, the teacher acts as a facilitator, helping to shape a practice that is unique to each individual.Physically, the practice alleviates tension and discomfort while enhancing breath and body awareness. Mentally, it offers a deeply meditative and introspective experience, supporting the processing of difficult emotions and helping to gain clarity in various situations. With its gentle nature, this practice is accessible to individuals of all skill and fitness levels. As I'm neurodivergent myself, I strive to create a neurodivergent-friendly and inclusive environment. The classes are held in Kidbrooke, Greenwich in a cosy home studio. The group is limited to 5 people, ensuring everyone has ample space and attention.

My yoga journey

Yoga has been part of my life for over 20 years, and it’s become an essential part of my everyday wellbeing. Over time, I’ve learned to use yoga and dance as powerful healing tools for my physical and mental health. I’m very tuned in to my body’s signals and love exploring ways to ease both physical and emotional tension. As a dancer, movement has always been my creative language. I love to improvise, play, and sometimes surprise even myself with what my body can do. As a yoga facilitator, my aim is to hold space for you to listen to your own body, move in ways that feel good, and reconnect with your natural creativity. As a DJ, I hand-pick the music to complement and enhance our practice.I completed two Yoga Alliance–certified courses: Somatic Yoga Teacher Training in sunny Tenerife with the wonderful Mili Gentile, and Mental Health Aware & Trauma-Informed Yoga with Jessica Flemming. I’m still continuing my education in this field, eager to deepen my understanding and learn new ways to support others.I’m very much looking forward to sharing this journey with you, blending movement, mindfulness, and curiosity to help you feel more at home in your body and at peace in your mind.

Class guidelines

🙏 Let's keep verbal conversation to a minimum during class. If you need assistance, just give a little wave.🙏 To help maintain a calm atmosphere, let's keep our voices soft, even before and after class.🙏 However, you're more than welcome to make natural body sounds like sighing or yawning.🙏 If you arrive late, please join in quietly.🙏 If you need to faff around with something (like taking a sip of water or removing a layer), doing it slowly and mindfully can help minimise distractions for you and everyone.🙏 Enjoy and be yourself! Always honour your body and do not do anything that feels too painful or uncomfortable. If you find that you can't breathe normally, it's too much! In this class, there is no need to people-please!

What to bring?
